The Georgia Bureau of Investigation Region 14 Field Office and the Charlton County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the homicide of Sheeyta Elaine Herrin that occurred on March 31, 2019. A concert was held at the American Legion Building that evening. Immediately following the concert while individuals were leaving gunfire erupted in the parking lot where Herrin was fatally hit by one of the rounds. A subsequent incident occurred at the Flash Food Convenient Store involving some of the same individuals. An individual was shot at the store, but the injury was non-life threatening. Multiple individuals have been arrested reference the incidents, but none have been directly linked nor has an arrest been made for Herrin’s death.

As attendees are leaving the venue, gunfire erupts in the parking lot. Sheeyta Elaine Herrin (21) is fatally struck by a gunshot. Two other females are also shot but sustain non‑life‑threatening injuries. ~3:36 a.m. (approximately 15 minutes later) A second shooting occurs at a Flash Foods convenience store located on US Highway 1 in Folkston. Two males are shot and sustain non‑life‑threatening injuries. Law enforcement states that some individuals involved had been at the American Legion earlier, and a connection between the two shootings has not been ruled out. Sunday, March 31, 2019 — Later That Day The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is requested to assist the Charlton County Sheriff’s Office and Folkston Police Department. The incident is officially classified as a homicide investigation. Authorities confirm Sheeyta Elaine Herrin died from a gunshot wound. Investigators begin collecting witness statements and evidence from both shooting locations.
